Ten cylindrical destoners and ten elevators shipped to Côte d'Ivoire

Ten cylindrical destoners and ten elevators have been loaded at Starlight Machinery's factory in Danyang, Jiangsu, and dispatched to a rice processing customer in Côte d'Ivoire.
The order covers two stages that every rice mill depends on before milling begins: removing stones and heavy impurities from incoming paddy, and moving grain vertically between machines.
Neither machine husks or whitens rice. Both protect the machines that do.
The shipment
| Equipment | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Cylindrical destoners (stone-removing machines) | 10 units |
| Elevators | 10 units |
| Destination | Côte d'Ivoire |
All machines were produced and inspected at the Danyang factory, then packed and loaded for sea freight to West Africa.
Why stone removal comes first

Paddy arriving at a mill rarely comes clean. Harvesting, drying on open ground and bulk handling bring in stones, sand, clods, metal fragments and straw. In West Africa, where much paddy is sun-dried on yards or roadsides before reaching the mill, stones are a constant presence in the incoming grain.
If those impurities reach the husker, they damage the rubber rolls. If they reach the whitener, they wear the emery stones and screens, and stones that pass all the way through end up in the finished rice. Removing them at intake is far cheaper than replacing wear parts or losing a buyer to a contaminated bag.
A cylindrical destoner handles this at the start of the line. Grain enters a rotating perforated drum, which separates material by size and density: the grain passes through, while stones, larger impurities and debris are discharged separately. The cylindrical design gives a steady, continuous flow with low maintenance, which suits mills running long shifts with limited technical staff on site.
Starlight's pre-cleaning and de-stoning equipment covers this stage, including the 56 drum destoner for combined pre-cleaning and stone removal.
The role of the elevator
An elevator is the simplest machine in a rice mill and one of the most important. Most milling lines arrange machines in sequence (cleaning, destoning, husking, separation, whitening, grading), and grain has to be lifted from the discharge of one machine to the inlet of the next.
A bucket elevator does this with a belt carrying buckets inside an enclosed casing. Grain is fed in at the boot, lifted vertically, and discharged at the head into the next machine or a holding bin. Doing this mechanically keeps the line continuous, reduces manual handling, and lets a mill fit more processing stages into a compact floor area.
When an elevator stops, everything downstream stops with it. That is why buyers who already run milling lines often treat elevators as working equipment to plan and maintain, not as accessories.
What this order means for a rice processing operation
Ordering destoners and elevators in equal quantities is typical of intake and transfer equipment being supplied as matched sets. An elevator commonly feeds or discharges a destoner as part of the cleaning section. How the units are deployed at site depends on the customer's layout and existing machinery.
For buyers evaluating a similar order, the practical points are:
- Match capacity across the section. The elevator's handling rate should suit the destoner's throughput and the capacity of the machines further down the line.
- Plan the vertical layout. Elevator height depends on the inlet heights of the machines it feeds and the building's clearance.
- Consider incoming paddy condition. Paddy with heavy stone or sand loads may need pre-cleaning ahead of destoning, or more frequent cleaning of screens and drums.
- Stock wear parts. Belts, buckets and screens are consumables. Spares ordered with the machines reduce downtime later. See rice mill spare parts: what to stock.

Côte d'Ivoire as a rice processing market
Rice is the main staple in Côte d'Ivoire, and the country is one of West Africa's largest rice import markets. National policy has long aimed to raise domestic paddy production and local milling capacity, so that more of the rice consumed in the country is grown and processed there.
Building that capacity depends on reliable equipment at every stage, including the cleaning and handling stages that determine whether locally milled rice can compete with imported rice on cleanliness and consistency.

Export and delivery
The consignment ships by sea freight with standard export documentation: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin for Ivorian customs clearance.
Machines are packed and secured for the ocean voyage, protected at vulnerable points, and marked so the receiving team can check each item against the packing list on arrival. For more on how Starlight inspects equipment before dispatch, see Quality & Process.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cylindrical destoner? A cylindrical destoner is a cleaning machine that uses a rotating perforated drum to separate paddy from stones, sand, clods and other impurities. Grain passes through the drum while larger and heavier material is discharged separately. It is installed at the intake of a rice mill to protect downstream machines and keep stones out of the finished rice.
Why does a rice mill need a destoner before the husker? Stones and hard impurities damage husker rubber rolls, wear whitening stones and screens, and contaminate the finished product. Removing them at intake extends the service life of the machines that follow and protects the quality of the milled rice.
What does a bucket elevator do in a rice mill? A bucket elevator lifts grain vertically from one machine to the next using buckets mounted on a belt inside an enclosed casing. It keeps the processing line continuous, reduces manual handling and allows machines to be arranged in a compact layout.
How do I size an elevator for my rice mill? Elevator capacity should match or slightly exceed the throughput of the machines it serves, and its height depends on the inlet heights of the downstream equipment and the building's clearance. Share your line layout and capacity with Starlight's team for a matched recommendation.
Does Starlight ship rice milling equipment to Côte d'Ivoire? Yes. Starlight exports rice milling equipment to Côte d'Ivoire by sea freight, with export documentation prepared for Ivorian customs clearance. Shipments include individual machines, spare parts and complete production lines.
Can I buy individual machines instead of a complete rice mill? Yes. Starlight supplies individual machines such as destoners, elevators, huskers, whiteners, polishers and graders for new lines, expansions or replacement of existing equipment.
